company profile
KrantzKloof Software began in 1986, as Dataquest Durban, offering consulting services for the Post Office's fledgling Videotex service called Beltel.
Began by Dave Soane, who has a background in electronics and software, the company began moving in the direction of providing data communications software for Beltel after a year or two, and was the first (and only private company) to offer a suite of programs for data transfer on Beltel.
At the end of the millennium, Beltel was discontinued and the company reinvented itself as a provider of Internet-based data transfer software, building on the experience gathered from its earlier system.
The company initially offered a basic extension of FTP (File Transfer Protocol). But after a year or two, it became apparent that there was a need for a general data transfer system that could replace FTP completely, and also replace email, which was getting more and more unreliable and clogged with spam.
These needs, plus the experience from Beltel, and other requirements that had been stated, such as automation, were the impetus for the company to produce InterNEDI, a complete Internet-based data transfer solution for environments where live connections are unavailable or undesirable, or to run parallel with live systems.
InterNEDI is KrantzKloof's main product now, and their main operation is maintaining, supporting and improving it.
For historical reasons, InterNEDI's main market is Point of Sale systems, where it is the communication component, used for distributing data to shops, and gathering data back to Head Office.
However, InterNEDI's applications are numerous, and any scenario where data needs to be transferred, distributed, gathered or shared, with relevant user and group permissions, automation, and a host of other features, is a possible application that needs InterNEDI.
